Leading Indian firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has hired a four-lawyer disputes team in New Delhi from rival Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co.

Partner Omar Ahmad leads the team, which also includes three associates. Ahmad, who was most recently a principal associate with Shardul Amarchand, focuses his practice on commercial litigation and arbitration. He joined legacy Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co.’s New Delhi office in 2010, then joined Delhi-headquartered Shardul Amarchand when former co-managing partners Shardul and Cyril Shroff split with the legacy firm in 2015.

The brothers’ firms have been poaching from each other in recent months, with Delhi becoming the primary battleground. Last month, former Shardul Amarchand equity partner Akila Agrawal switched to Cyril Amarchand as head of its M&A practice. In July, Cyril Amarchand also hired former principal associate Mukul Sharma, who worked with Agrawal at Shardul Amarchand, as a corporate partner. In June, Shardul Amarchand recruited corporate partner Nivedita Tiwari from Cyril Amarchand.

According to 2017’s Asia 50 survey, Cyril Amarchand, which is the bigger of the two offshoot firms, had 619 lawyers in 2016, while Shardul Amarchand had 430.
