Mastercard settled a collective lawsuit Tuesday on behalf of 45.5 million of the company’s United Kingdom customers over credit card fees.
The credit card giant has agreed in principle to the first approved mass consumer action in the United Kingdom. British solicitor Walter Merricks represented the plaintiffs and confirmed through a spokesperson that the parties had settled. The settlement is subject to approval by the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), a process that involves a hearing that could happen as soon as this month, according to Merricks.
