The departure of a trio of practice leaders from Weil Gotshal & Manges came amid tensions in the partnership, including over the influence of the firm’s corporate department leader and the succession planning process, sources say.

All within a week, several departures of Weil partners were announced, including Elizabeth Stotland Weiswasser, co-chair of its litigation department and executive committee member, headed to Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison; Anish Desai, co-head of the firm’s patent litigation practice, also joining Paul Weiss; and Ray Schrock, co-chair of the firm’s restructuring practice and a major player in bankruptcy work, to Latham & Watkins.
