Gibson Dunn & Crutcher partner Brad Roach has joined K&L Gates as an energy, infrastructure and resources partner in Singapore.
He brings along with him an associate, Alexandra Jones, who has worked at Gibson Dunn for almost seven years.
Roach joined K&L Gates in August, weeks before Gibson Dunn’s announcement in September that it will be downsizing in Singapore, cutting half of its partner head count in the city state.
Roach specializes in the oil and gas, and energy sectors, primarily advising on high value, high profile mergers and acquisitions.
Last year, he acted for Chevron New Energies Holdings Indonesia Ltd. on the negotiation of several agreements in connection with the Way Ratai geothermal working area in Indonesia. In 2019, he led a Gibson Dunn team to advise Murphy Oil on the divestment of its Malaysian operations to PTTEP for $2.1 billion.
“K&L Gates has a strong reputation in the energy, renewables, hydrogen, shipping, and LNG sectors, and we are keen to help deepen the firm’s capabilities within Asia,” Roach said in a statement.
Roach has spent over a decade at Gibson Dunn, joining the firm from Hogan Lovells, where he was a partner for over five years. Before that he was a partner at White & Case. He has also previously worked at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom as well as at Freshfields.
K&L Gates, which operates as K&L Gates Straits Law in Singapore, has made several partner hires for that office this year. In July, it added two corporate lawyers from DLA Piper.
It also recent hired finance partners Samuel Kolehmainen and Duc Nguyen from Herbert Smith Freehills, and investment funds partner Jason Nelms from Morrison Foerster.
According to the firm's website, K&L Gates will count just over 50 lawyers in Singapore with its new lawyer additions.
