Ex-Freshfields Partner Handed Jail Term After Tax Scandal Trial

Former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner, Ulf Johannemann, was found guilty of aiding and abetting dividend tax fraud Tuesday morning by the Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main.

Ulf Johannemann, formerly global head of tax at Freshfields until 2019, gave legal advice to Maple Bank, a subsidiary of Canada’s Maple Financial. He was arrested in 2019 while still a senior partner at the firm. He was a partner at the firm between 2007 and 2019.
