Clifford Chance is fronting a long-running legal battle over the trademark for ‘Halloumi’, a well-known Cypriot cheese that a Cyprus-backed organisation argues has protected status.

In the long-running legal battle, the firm is acting for the ‘Foundation for the Protection of the Traditional Cheese of Cyprus named Halloumi’ against a Swedish food company, Fontana Foods, which branded one of its products ‘Grilloumi’.
