Clifford Chance’s highest paid partner took home £100,000 less this year, as the firm also upped personnel numbers at every level resulting in significantly higher staff costs, U.K. LLP accounts for the 2022-23 financial year show. 

The amount taken home by Clifford Chance’s highest paid member, which last year soared by 35% to hit almost £5 million, dropped by 2.5% to £4.82 million. The financials also reveal that the firm has increased numbers of personnel across every level. According to the accounts, there were an extra 30 partners at the end of 2023, with 593 at the end of 2023 compared to 563 at the end of 2022. The average monthly number of partners was also up by a similar number, going from 457 in 2022 to 480 in 2023. There were also increases across every level, with the number of associates, fee-earners, trainees and administrative and support staff all going up too. As a result, the accounts revealed that staff and related costs also leapt, by around £95 million to reach £964 million.
