These days, legal’s race to artificial intelligence proficiency is well underway. On March 6, DLA Piper announced the hiring of chief data scientist Bennet Borden, from Feagre, Drinker, Biddle & Bath. The news comes on the heels of firms like Debevoise & Plimpton doubling their AI practice and Allen & Overy launching Harvey.

Borden spoke to Law.com International’s sister title, Legaltech News, about how he plans to lead the team of scientists and attorneys at DLA Piper’s AI practice in the coming months amid a rapidly evolving AI landscape. DLA Piper also recently announced its use of Casetext’s GPT-4-powered tool CoCounsel, which Bennet sees several use cases for beyond just legal research.
