Another International Women’s Day has come and gone so we can now file away until next year all the profiles of successful women lawyers, stories describing the high percentage of women promoted to partner at certain firms, and articles offering advice to women on how to make it in a man’s world.

I know I’m cynical. And as someone who came of age after American women such as Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem had made an incredible mark on the world and paved a path for women, I do appreciate the progress that has been made in many places, including in the law. And I also think it’s important—maybe even essential—that we recognize underrepresented groups over the course of a calendar year, whether it be Black History Month, LGBTQ+ Pride Month, or International Women’s Day.
