Donald Houston, a partner and counsel at McCarthy Tétrault in Toronto for 16 years, has taken on the role of senior general counsel at Canada’s Competition Bureau Legal Services and legal adviser to the Commissioner of Competition.

Houston, whose two-year term at the country’s mergers and acquisitions watchdog starts this week, is recognized as a leading expert in competition law and litigation in Canada. His experience includes cartel investigations and prosecutions, mergers, and civil cases before Canada’s Competition Tribunal, the bureau said in a statement announcing the appointment.
