The range of sanctions imposed by the West and other global partners against Russia over its actions in Ukraine are considered to be the most far-reaching and punitive in history.
Undoubtedly, there are aspects to the measures which are unprecedented, such as the banning of Russia from the SWIFT payment system, while the speed and extent to which western brands withdrew from the Russian market reverberated throughout the Russian – and global – economies.
