As the United States and other allies respond to Russia’s sudden invasion of Ukraine, D.C. lawyers that specialize in sanctions, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other cross-border legal services are helping clients traverse an increasingly complex landscape.

The U.S. on Thursday revealed it and its allies were imposing “severe and immediate economic costs” on Russia in response to President Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine. It was the second set of sanctions in as many weeks. According to the White House, the actions include “sweeping” financial sanctions and “stringent” export controls aimed at having a “profound impact” on Russia’s economy, financial system, and access to technology.
