Lawyers in Germany say it’s too early to know definitively what impact the outcome of Sunday’s election in Germany will have on their practices and clients, especially because coalitions need to be formed before the government can act on issues that will affect Germany’s future.

The federal election was historic not just for marking the end of Angela Merkel’s 16-year chancellorship, but also for seeing the lowest vote for Merkel’s governing center-right Christian Democrats (CDU) in its postwar history, which saw them narrowly lose to Olaf Scholz’s center-left Social Democrats (SPD).
