We have a term to describe the apprehension that accompanies thinking about returning to work after two days away: “the Sunday scaries.” But we’ve never before had to make sense of the feelings attached to heading back to the office after a break of 18 months.
Leaders of large U.S. law firms are aware of this anxiety as they hope to coax more personnel back to workplaces this fall, whether or not they are mandating any specific attendance threshold. And that means they’re rolling out special programming designed to create added comfort around what many lawyers—even those who relish their newfound flexibility—still believe is an important and enjoyable part of a demanding job: collaborating directly with others.
