Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau nominated Mahmud Jamal on Thursday to serve as the newest justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.
Jamal is the first person of color ever nominated to the country’s highest court. He will fill the position of retiring Justice Rosalie Abella, the first Jewish judge appointed to Canada’s top court.
