Dechert has successfully defended the Republic of Colombia against a claim of expropriation brought by Mexican wireless giant América Móvil at the World Bank’s International Centre for Settlement of Investor Disputes (ICSID)—one of several recent challenges against the South American country.

América Móvil hired lawyers at Mexican firm Aziz & Kaye, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Washington, D.C., and Lloreda, Camacho & Co. in Bogotá to initiate an arbitration case in 2016 pursuant to Colombia’s free trade agreement with Mexico, arguing that some of the company’s infrastructure had been expropriated.
