The Chilean Bar Association is lobbying to have a provision included in the country’s next Constitution that will allow legislators to mandate that lawyers belong to a professional group in order to practice law in Chile.
In a letter posted on its website this week, the association argued that professional groups such as the Bar Association are best positioned to judge and sanction lawyers for ethical lapses.
