Women general counsel outnumber their male colleagues 2-to-1 in board membership at Canadian public companies, according to a report released Thursday by Canadian law firm Blake, Cassels & Graydon.

The annual benchmarking study shows 66% of the GCs on the boards of companies on the S&P/TSX Composite Index are women, with the banking/insurance and energy sectors leading the way. However, 154 of the 219 companies in the study, including those in the hotel/leisure, health/pharma and communications sectors, do not have any women GCs on their boards.
