Taylor Wessing has hired another 11 lawyers from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner’s private wealth team, the firm announced in a statement on Monday.

The group hire follows the departure of two prominent private wealth partners, Damian Bloom and Simon Phelps, to Taylor Wessing in late 2020.

The firm’s London based private client and family teams – historically a jewel in the crown of legacy Berwin Leighton Paisner – had already slimmed recently following the departure of several members.

In October, the firm’s London head of family asset protection Elizabeth Hicks left to join boutique offering Family Law in Partnership, along with three other lawyers from her team.

Meanwhile the private client team has had a number of exits since 2018, with a flurry occurring this year.

Partner duo Martin Paisner CBE and Murray North left in May for U.K. firm Payne Hicks Beach and Taylor Wessing respectively, following the departure of tax and private client partner Paul Whitehead, who joined boutique firm Maurice Turnor Gardner earlier in 2020.

His move followed that of former BCLP head of private client litigation Rupert Ticehurst, who joined MTG in 2018.

According to the statement by Taylor Wessing, the new hires bring the firm’s Europe-based private wealth team to more than 100 lawyers. Private wealth sector head Nick Warr said: “The hire of the team from BCLP further underlines a commitment and dedication to our private wealth offering. Our ambition is to be the preferred choice for globally mobile, ultra-high net worth individuals and families when they need a connected legal adviser to work with them to grow, protect and transfer their wealth. This team hire will bolster the services we offer to address the complex needs of the largest multigenerational families, globally.”
