The Law Society of Ireland has announced that England-and-Wales-qualified solicitors will no longer be able to obtain Irish practising certificates unless they work in the country, a move that threatens to jeopardise U.K. firms’ Brexit strategy.

Following a review, the Law Society of Ireland said on Wednesday that “Irish qualified solicitors who are based in England and Wales and are seeking a practising certificate from the Society will not be entitled to a practising certificate”.
