Baker McKenzie has added a non-lawyer economist from auditing giant PwC to its partnership, in a bid to strengthen its tax capabilities in Germany and compete with the Big Four.

The addition of Florian Gimmler to the firm’s Frankfurt base comes as part of the firm’s wider plans to double the size of its German tax practice over the next two to three years in order to compete with the Big Four, according to Thomas Schänzle, co-head of Baker McKenzie’s German tax practice. It follows the hire of tax partner Thomas Gierath from Reed Smith last year.
