The legal leaders of 12 financial institutions published an open letter Wednesday calling for greater inclusivity in the legal profession and laying out three pillars to further diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The open letter was published amid national outrage over the killings of unarmed Black people at the hands of the police and a week after comments from Wells Fargo CEO Charles Scharf came to light about not being able to find qualified diverse talent to meet diversity and inclusion goals. The letter does not directly address Scharf’s comments but calls on attorneys to find ways to improve diversity and inclusion programs internally, through external suppliers and through social action efforts.
