Essam Al Tamimi set up one of the Middle East’s largest law firms, Al Tamimi & Company, in 1989 and has seen his fair share of economic crises and oil price crashes over that time. But the current economic crisis caused by the global pandemic feels very different to him.

“During a boom we do well, and during a crisis we help people through, so we are always basically busy. But this crisis is very different. The crisis of 2008 hit banks number one. This crisis hits literally everyone. Clients will not walk in my office. They have become closed businesses,” he said.
