Clifford Chance is not expecting the coronavirus disruption to end any time soon, with the firm cancelling its partner conference that had been due to take place in three months’ time.

The conference was set to be held in Berlin at the end of June, according to two people at the Magic Circle firm.

A CC spokesperson confirmed that the conference has been postponed, with an arranged date yet to be confirmed.

Several top firms have called off partner conferences that were scheduled to take place in March or April, but this is the furthest ahead that any major firm has taken preventative measures.

According to the latest figures by the World Health Organization, Germany has 36,500 confirmed cases of the virus. Earlier in March, the head of the organisation said that Europe was the new “epicentre” of the outbreak as the spread of COVID-19 in Asia slows.

Other firms to have changed their plans for partner conferences include Paul Hastings, Latham & Watkins and Orrick. Linklaters, meanwhile, is opting to run its conference virtually rather than gathering its partnership in Berlin at the end of April.
