Brazil’s Office of the Attorney General has filed suit against British American Tobacco and Philip Morris International, as well as their Brazilian subsidiaries, claiming the companies need to reimburse the country for healthcare costs associated with smoking-related diseases.
The suit, filed this week, shows South American countries are becoming more stringent in regulating tobacco companies.
