Technology comes and goes, challenging many practitioners who come to Legaltech in hopes of keeping pace with and comprehending the wealth of technological innovation. Even functionality that earns the most hype often demonstrates inconsistent adoption rates. This is often referred to as the consumption gap, which has been described by Steve Berrent, CEO of eMag: “Despite the sophistication of technology, most attorneys only use a small portion of the available functionality and do not maximize technology’s available functionality.”

At Legaltech this year, this theme held true and was reinforced by one of the most interesting panels I’ve ever had a chance to moderate. The goal of the panel was to discuss current trends as seen by in-house counsel, and the session’s pithy title-”The only trends you need to know this year – straight from in-house counsel” – seemed to resonate, with the room packed with attendees hoping to learn how to separate the wheat from the chaff.
