What’s the closest you have come to doing something other than law? After I had decided to leave my previous firm, Baker & McKenzie, I thought long and hard about joining a client who was setting up a new business, but the pressure of school fees and a huge mortgage was too great!
Who has been the biggest influence on your career? As a young lawyer I was profoundly influenced by Nick Conolly, a corporate partner at Bakers. He died very young of cancer, but he showed you can be a great lawyer and not take yourself too seriously.
