Herbert Smith has secured a role alongside Davis Polk & Wardell on Asian oil giant CNOOC’s $18.5bn cash bid to acquire Californian power group Unocal.
The top Wall Street firm secured the lead role in the transaction which was overseen by New York corporate partner Christopher Mayer and John Amorosi, with the firm fielding lawyers in its Hong Kong, Washington DC and Menlo Park arms.
