When asked to list their hobbies and interests, sporting activities usually come high on people’s lists. But for Tim O’Gorman, legal secretary of Carphone Warehouse, the sporting interest goes beyond the odd round of golf or game of village cricket.

The Diary has discovered that O’Gorman was once a professional cricketer, playing for Derbyshire between 1987 and 1996. Some basic research reveals a bowling average of 3 for 71.66 for his three career wickets (right-arm offbreak) and a batting average of 31.05. Not bad when you consider that Ian Botham’s own batting average stands at 33.54.
