A little over a year ago, Linklaters’ managing partner, Tony Angel, took to the floor at a partnership retreat to the tones of the Queen hit ‘Under Pressure’.

It was a light-hearted reference to the criticism heaped on Linklaters for the rigour with which management went about restructuring the firm. There is nothing like a strong set of financial results to silence the critics, and Linklaters has duly delivered. As legalweek.com revealed on 10 June, average profits per partner are up 25% to £843,000 against a 12% rise in turnover to £805m. Fees per fee earner, that key productivity measure, are also up, if rather less stratospherically rising 7% to £322,000.
