The UK’s in-house lawyers have long been without official guidance to steer them in their role. But last month saw the launch of a new set of corporate governance guidelines for in-house lawyers drawn up by the Commerce and Industry Group (C&I Group).

Lawyers heralded the new best practice recommendations, which provide general advice on a variety of issues facing corporate counsel in the post-Enron regulatory clampdown, as a valuable step in drawing attention to a number of issues that confront in-house advisers on a daily basis.
