Long gone are the days when advanced and complex technology was the sole preserve of global and national behemoths at the top-end of the legal market. Smaller legal practices are under pressure from clients that view their work product as a commodity and IT-based delivery and reporting systems are often taken for granted. As any small firm’s IT manager will know, integrating the practice’s simple back-office function with a large number of complex financial systems to keep the clients happy is no mean feat.

Nowadays, even the giant software companies such as SAP and its rivals, which provide financial systems for multinational corporations, are reaching out to medium-sized law firms with the argument that they may get more business from their larger clients if they buy watered down versions of these financial systems. There are currently four resellers for SAP alone in the legal industry and they are all focusing on the mid-market.
