In 2002, almost all respondents to the Legal Week/PA Consulting annual law firm survey were either planning or piloting digital dictation, and this year’s survey revealed its implementation as the joint third priority. This trend is driving more firms to consider ‘offshoring’ their support processes, especially as the legal industry has some of the highest support costs in the professional services sector.

Experience from organisations in other industry sectors, however, has shown that realising the benefits of offshore outsourcing can be difficult. This article explores some of the issues and ways in which firms can address these.
