Clifford Chance (CC) has emerged as the front-runner to land the highly-coveted £5bn flotation of Standard Life after advising the mutual on its recent strategic review and regulatory negotiations with the Financial Services Authority.
The news is a blow to regular Standard Life adviser Herbert Smith, which has advised on many of the big demutualisations in recent years, including Friends Provident and National Mutual.
