The Lord Chancellor’s Department (LCD) is facing calls to set up a super regulator as part of a drive to sweep away restrictions governing the provision of legal services.

The calls come in response to the LCD’s consultation on the Office of Fair Trading’s demands for a raft of restrictive rules to be ditched, including those banning multi-disciplinary partnerships (MDPs) and preventing in-house lawyers from advising the public – the so-called ‘Tesco law’ option.
