“Cutting through the fog” of mobile communication technologies is how one Legal IT reader describes the task of supporting, promoting – and in some cases vetoing – a rapidly evolving suite of mobile working and connectivity facilities that are suitable for lawyers and deliver true value to the business. The task, he says, is complicated because in this highly competitive market truly dependable information is hard to come by.

The problem is twofold. There is plenty of information out there covering the myriad of different devices and software platforms – so much, in fact that it can easily overwhelm even the most enthusiastic investigator. And the pace of technological change, driven by fierce competition between vendors, has turned the inevitable march toward obsolescence of most gadgets and systems into a sprint.
