AuldProposed reforms to end the use of juries in complex fraud cases are hanging on a thread, according to legal experts, despite widespread expectations that the Government will water down sweeping restrictions on jury trials for middle ranking criminal offences.

Reports from the Home Office last month indicated that the bulk of the proposed cuts to jury trials, contained in Lord Justice Auld’s review of the criminal justice system, are set to be abandoned after widespread opposition from the legal profession and backbench Labour MPs.
