A special choral evensong for ABA delegates was held at the Temple Church. In his sermon, Richard Chartres, Bishop of London, outlined the role played by the Templars in establishing both the Christian faith and the foundations of democracy in the US.
“The Templars knew they would succeed because religion always sides with poverty,” he said, pausing for effect as he studied the congregation. “Well, we will have to re-think that, won’t we?”
he added, as the affluent congregation roared with laughter.
