A Middlesex County medical malpractice case, Munoz v. Sarkaria, in which a teenager’s family claimed he sustained a brain injury while under anesthesia for knee operations, has settled for $9.38 million, and the settlement was approved by the court on Aug. 18.
The settlement resolves the minor plaintiff’s claims against Dr. Janak Sarkaria of Summit Anesthesia Associates, the anesthesiologist who on Dec. 19, 2014, tended to the then-15-year-old patient prior to surgery to repair a torn ACL sustained while playing soccer.
The plaintiffs attorney, Peter Chamas of Gill & Chamas in Woodbridge, who handled the case with Robert Adinolfi of the same firm, declined to comment on the settlement beyond a written statement.
