When Kevin Ware, a sophomore guard for Louisville’s college basketball team, broke his leg playing in the N.C.A.A. tournament, insurance coverage for college athletes again became a subject of discussion.  Mr. Ware’s immediate out-of-pockets costs apparently are going to be covered by his family’s insurance and by a secondary policy that Louisville has for the benefit of its varsity athletes. But should there be other health care insurance for college athletes, and even insurance protecting athletes for the possible loss of professional contracts due to injury?
