LakePharma Inc. has hired Hajime Tada as general counsel, the company announced this week. Tada comes to the biologics company from Agilent Technologies, where he most recently served as lead counsel to the company’s life sciences group.

In a company statement, Tada predicted an “exciting journey of growth and success” for his new company.

“I had the tremendous opportunity of supporting Agilent on its long road from [Hewlett-Packard] spinoff to becoming an industry-leading life-sciences company,” he said. “The same great future lies before LakePharma, but on a much quicker trajectory.”

LakePharma, based in Belmont, California, and founded as a startup in 2009, specializes in the engineering, development and production of antibodies and proteins used in pharmaceuticals. According to an October 2016 San Francisco Business Times report, the company has enjoyed annual triple-digit revenue growth, due in large part to expansion into biomanufacturing and antibody discovery.

Before joining Agilent as corporate counsel in 2000, Tada was a deputy city attorney in the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, and before that, he served as of counsel at McCutchen Doyle Brown & Enersen. He holds degrees from Yale University and New York University School of Law.

A company spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment on Tada’s hire, including whether he is the first person to hold the top lawyer position at LakePharma.
