Georgia Power Names Meredith Lackey General Counsel

Meredith Lackey recently was named general counsel, chief compliance officer, senior vice president and corporate secretary at Georgia Power.

Lackey will oversee corporate compliance, legal counsel, risk management and security issues for the energy company, which is a subsidiary of Southern Company.

In a statement, the company noted her experience in regulatory and compliance matters, as well as management of complex legal issues. Recently, she was vice president and general counsel at Colonial Pipeline Co., as well as chief compliance officer and corporate secretary there.

Previously, she worked at Jones Day and Baker Botts law firms. She graduated from the law school at the University of Mississippi and also graduated from Louisiana State University.

Georgia Power generates power through nuclear, coal, natural gas, solar, hydroelectric and wind – and provides energy to 2.5 million customers.

Cox Enterprises Appoints Juliette Pryor General Counsel

Cox Enterprises has named Juliette Pryor senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at the communications company.

Previously, she was executive vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer for US Foods. She oversaw compliance, ethics, legal and risk management functions at that company.

Earlier, she worked for Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, and before that was general counsel and corporate secretary for e.spire Communications. Also, she was legal advisor to the vice chairman of the U.S. International Trade Commission and was an in-house counsel at IBM.

Pryor is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, as well as Fisk University. Pryor was on the Illinois Governor’s Women’s Advisory Council and was a member of the law advisory board of Georgetown University Law Center.

Julia Wicker Lee New Associate General Counsel at University of North Carolina Wilmington

Julia Wicker Lee was named associate general counsel at the Wilmington campus of the University of North Carolina following a career at two law firms.

Earlier, she worked at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein in Raleigh, where she focused on such fields as banking and capital markets, administrative law, creditor’s rights and commercial litigation.

Previously, she worked at Williams Mullen.

In a statement, John Scherer, the university’s general counsel, said that, “Julia’s skill in drafting complicated business and real estate agreements and in advising clients on complex business transactions, as well as her commercial litigation experience, provides great value to the university’s risk management, business affairs, research and real estate interests.”

She is a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law, and received an undergraduate degree from the college there, as well.

Michelle D. Kley Promoted to Chief Legal Officer at SSL MDA Holdings

Michelle D. Kley was named senior vice president, chief legal and compliance officer, and secretary at SSL MDA Holdings, an operating company for MDA, a communications and information company.

In the new post, Kley is responsible for compliance, contracts, export control and legal functions in the corporation.

Initially, Kley was associate general counsel and was promoted to vice president of legal at SSL in 2015.

Earlier, she worked at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati P.C. and Morrison & Foerster law firms. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley law school and Sonoma State University.
