One of the most time consuming and tedious tasks for law professionals today is legal research. Although there are many solutions available to make legal search faster and easier, one of the most popular comes from dtSearch, a company with products that help with legal research across statutes, regulations, and case law, and can search Web data.
dtSearch Corp., a supplier of filters and enterprise and developer text retrieval software, has introduced version 7.75 of its product line. This release includes new HTML5 templates for publishing instantly searchable data to an Internet or Intranet site through dtSearch Web with Spider.
“After years of specializing in processing solutions, Driven elected to develop its own platform for early case assessment and document review by combining the best features and ideas from across the industry,” the company said in a statement.
Version 7.75 offers the same HTML5 templates for dtSearch Publish, for quick publishing of instantly searchable data to portable media. It expands dtSearch’s proprietary document filters, covering parsing, indexing, searching and display with highlighted hits of a variety of data formats. All dtSearch’s “off the shelf” products embed the document filters. dtSearch’s programmer products, the dtSearch Engine for Win & .NET and the dtSearch Engine for Linux, also make available the document filters with dtSearch searching and for separate OEM licensing.
I recently sat down with Elizabeth Thede, vice president of sales at dtSearch, to discuss the new dtSearch product line and why it’s constantly being upgraded. “Because of the nature of its product line, dtSearch comes out with new releases of its products every few months. New beta versions appear pretty much every couple of weeks,” she explained.
The new version of dtSearch has a number of updates. First, product support covers full-text and metadata display with highlighted hits; where indicated, support covers integrated images along with text. The supported data types include Web-ready static and dynamic content; MS Office formats; PDF, other “Office” documents, compression formats; emails and attachments and; recursively embedded objects.
“These data types frequently evolve, requiring updates to the dtSearch product line. For example, if Adobe releases a new version of the PDF file format, or Microsoft releases a new version of its email formats, dtSearch products have to accommodate those specifications — while continuing to support previous file format versions,” said Thede.
Secondly, dtSearch enterprise and developer products can index over a terabyte of text in a single index, spanning multiple directories, emails and attachments, online data and other databases. The products can then create and search any number of indexes, with indexed search time typically less than a second.
Additionally, dtSearch products offer federated searching across any number of directories, emails and databases. The dtSearch Spider adds local and remote, static and dynamic online content to a search. The Spider can index sites to any level of depth, with support for public and private or secure online content, including log-ins and forms-based authentication. And, the dtSearch Engine supports categorization based on document full-text contents, internal document metadata, database content, or data attributes associated with documents during document indexing. Advanced data classification options include faceted search and full-text and/or fielded data positive and negative variable term weighting.
Further, the dtSearch product line offers more than 25 search types, including special forensics search options. Not to mention, dtSearch products provide Unicode support for international language text, including support for right-to-left languages, and special Chinese/Japanese/Korean character options. Finally, the dtSearch Engine for Win & .NET and the dtSearch Engine for Linux make available dtSearch instant searching and document filters (both together with searching as well as available for separate licensing) for a wide range of Internet, Intranet and other commercial applications.
