For C-suites, benchmarks for success are easy. Did the company’s stock go up? Were there any major scandals? Did the company increase its assets? For the in-house legal professional, however, achieving tangible benchmarks is tougher. There simply aren’t as many statistics that say, “We did well focusing on diversity and empowerment within our legal department this year!”

For the fifth consecutive year, the InsideCounsel magazine is sponsoring the Transformative Leadership Awards & Dinner (TLA). The TLA, which will be held in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 17, honors general counsel and law firm partners who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in corporate law.

While career achievements are an important factor in the empowerment of women in corporate law, the TLA seeks to look beyond just the surface. The awards given recognize the individual’s commitment to leadership, courage, advancement and empowerment of women.

There are seven different awards that will be recognized at the D.C. event. One, the Firm Wide Policies award, recognizes a quest to increase the percentage of women on management teams. Sharon Bowen of Latham & Watkins received this award last year through her work empowering women both with her firm and as Acting Chair of the Board of Directors of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation. Another award, the Pamela L. Carter Award, went to AGCO Corporation GC Debra Kuper last year for her unyielding vision, core values and philosophy of using her achievements as inspiration.

The TLA is one of several events sponsored by InsideCounsel, including the upcoming 14th annual SuperConference and the 2nd annual Women, Influence & Power in Law conference. The SuperConference early bird sale ends on Feb. 28, so make sure to register today and save $200 off the standard rate.

And if there is a legal leader that you believe deserves recognition for outstanding work in advancing the empowerment of women in corporate law, make sure to submit a nomination for TLA before March 31.
