GC Appointments

Roanoke College selected G. Michael Pace as its inaugural general counsel, effective July 1. From 1999 to 2012, Pace served as the managing partner of Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in Roanoke’s public affairs department, and is also a former president of the Virginia Bar Association.

Dean Breda joined Interactions Corp. as general counsel. Breda comes to the tech company from ZipCar, where he served as general counsel for three years. He has also acted as GC at companies including Demandware, VistaPrint and StorageNetworks. Before going in-house, Breda was an attorney at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault.

Alesia Pinney is now general counsel of Avalara, a provider of sales tax and compliance automation services. Pinney’s prior work experience includes stints as the general counsel of drugstore.com, InfoSpace Inc. and—most recently—Radiant Global Logistics Inc. She previously worked at Perkins Coie, where her practice focused on corporate finance.

Chad McDaniel was appointed vice president, general counsel and secretary of Lydall Inc. McDaniel joins the company from Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.—a division of United Technologies Corp. (UTC), where he was associate general counsel. During his seven years at UTC, McDaniel also served as assistant counsel at the company’s Pratt & Whitney subisidiary, director and executive assistant to the president at UTC Fire and Security.

Aaron’s, a lease-to-own furniture retailer, named Robert Kamerschen senior vice president and general counsel. Kamerschen most recently spent four and a half years as U.S. chief counsel, senior vice president and chief compliance officer at Equifax. He previously was vice president of law and public policy at ChoicePoint and general counsel of EzGov.

Sidra Medical and Research Center, a Qatar-based facility focused on women’s and children’s healthcare, hired Clint Hermes as general counsel. Hermes previously served as senior vice president of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where he managed the hospital’s legal, government relations and privacy departments and led its office of technology licensing. Before joining St. Jude’s, he was a health care attorney at Ropes & Gray.

Craig Levine joined WASH Multifamily Laundry Systems, a laundry facilities management services provider, as general counsel. Levine previously was a member of the corporate practice group at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell, where he provided outside counsel to his new employer.

Other In-House Moves

Ted Ullyot, the general counsel of Facebook Inc., announced his resignation after nearly five years at the social networking site. Before joining Facebook, Ullyot was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis and an in-house attorney at AOL Time Warner and ESL Investments Inc. He also worked in the public sector as a deputy assistant to President George W. Bush and chief of staff to U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Pro Bono Partnership, which provides pro bono legal services to nonprofits, named Kent Hansen a senior staff attorney for its New Jersey program. Hansen most recently spent more than 20 years as the executive vice president of administration, general counsel and secretary of Fedders Corp., where he also oversaw the company’s human resources department, as well as its real estate and insurance functions.
