Practice Profile: David Sarratt practices in Debevoise’s litigation department. He is a seasoned trial lawyer whose practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations and complex civil litigation. Leadership, Pro Bono and Civic Work: David also dedicates significant time to high-impact pro bono cases. He supervised teams of Debevoise lawyers working with the Clemency Project and NYU Law’s Mercy Project to secure clemency for eight non-violent drug offenders, four of whom were serving life sentences. He was also a lead member of the pro bono team that filed an amicus brief on behalf of the American Bar Association in the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark 2015 case, Obergefell v. Hodges, in which the court recognized the right of same-sex couples to marry. The court cited the ABA’s brief for a critical point in its decision. David also supervised a team of lawyers as counsel to LatinoJustice and Demos in submitting another amicus curiae brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of a petition for certiorari arguing that a Michigan law violates the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
