Q: What are some of the department’s most satisfying successes of the past year and why?

A: This past year, we saw the historic NFL concussion class action settlement become effective after several years of hard-fought litigation and intense public scrutiny. More than 99 percent of retired NFL players joined the settlement, which was determined to be fair and reasonable by both District Judge Anita Brody and the Third Circuit. Since January, more than 15,000 former players have registered for the settlement program, which is already distributing monetary awards to retired players with qualifying diagnoses and scheduling baseline neurological exams for those eligible.
