TL: What do you view as the in-house legal team’s essential function within your company?
Xome Holdings LLC: Our essential function is to partner with Xome’s business units to devise sustainable, compliant and profitable business outcomes. To successfully execute upon this goal, our lawyers create and present solutions that have passed through both a legal and a business lens. However, following such an approach places great demands upon our attorneys—they are required to maintain a broad and deep understanding of our evolving business operations, demonstrate expertise in applicable laws and regulatory developments, and possess soft skills such as active listening to effectively ask pertinent questions, negotiate and lead collaborative discussions that avoid contentious standoffs with internal and external stakeholders.
