There is no shortage of lawyers on Capitol Hill—they comprise 45 percent of the 114th Congress. More than half of all U.S. senators, or 54 percent, have a law degree. That’s down slightly from 57 last term. The U.S. House of Representatives is less lawyer-heavy, with nearly 37 percent of its members in possession of a juris doctor.
