Five judicial candidates and one legislative candidate in Hidalgo County are suing for a new Democratic primary election, alleging that “illegal votes” were counted and changed the outcomes of their elections.

Rey Ortiz, a candidate for the 92nd District Court, is suing his opponent and the winner of the primary, Luis Manuel Singleterry. County Court-at-Law No. 8 candidate Marla Cuellar is suing winner Omar Maldonado. Three losing candidates for justice of the peace, Precinct No. 2 Place 2—Hortencia “Tency” Martinez, Elvia Rios and Paul M. Vazaldua Jr.—each filed a suit against Jaime “Jerry” Munoz and Eloy Trevino, who are competing in the May runoff election. Also, Mari Regalado sued Rep. Sergio Munoz Jr. in the race for Texas state representative, District 36.
